Мечеть — молитвенное здание у мусульман. Она не является святым местом, храмом в полном смысле этого слова. Исключение составляет только Масджид аль-харам — «запретная мечеть», которая находится в Мекке. В центре Масджид аль-харам стоит Кааба — главная святыня мусульман.

Женщины обычно молятся на втором этаже или в отгороженной части первого этажа.
Вход в мечеть для мужчин и женщин бывает как общим, так и раздельным.

Правила этикета при посещении мечети
Пол в мечети устлан коврами, обувь оставляют при входе. В больших мечетях специальные служащие принимают обувь и выдают жетон.
Посетители мечети ведут себя очень раскованно: они сидят или лежат на полу, едят, спят, общаются между собой. Но при этом в любое время кто-то может совершать намаз, т. е. молиться.
Верующие читают Коран или просто сосредоточиваются на мысли о Всевышнем. Поэтому не следует повышать голос, смеяться, браниться и т. д.
Когда наступает время намаза, верующие совершают омовение (вуду) и выстраиваются рядами за имамом — предстоятелем на молитве. Те, кто по каким-то причинам не принимает участие в коллективной молитве, не обязаны покидать мечеть.
Поскольку в исламе не существует института священства, обращение к духовным лицам определяется конкретной практикой, сложившейся в данном регионе.
Наиболее универсальным является обращение «сайд» (по-арабски «господин»), а также «хаджи», то есть совершивший хадж. Но эти обращения не являются исключительной прерогативой духовных лиц.

СНИМИТЕ ОБУВЬ. Перед входом в мусульманский храм нужно обязательно снять обувь. У туристов это не должно вызвать неудобства - в мечетях всегда соблюдают чистоту. Можете позаботиться о гигиене заранее - взять лишнюю пару носков. В некоторых мечетях на входе продают бахилы, например в Кул Шариф.

ОДЕНЬТЕСЬ. В мечеть не пустят женщин без платка и в открытой одежде. Необходимо покрыть не только голову, но и все тело. Желательно, чтобы одежда не была облегающей. В больших мечетях, которые постоянно посещают туристы, обычно на входе предлагают платки и халаты. Мужчинам тоже не стоит расслабляться: в шортах или майках туда могут не пустить.

НЕ МЕШАЙТЕ МОЛЯЩИМСЯ. Если женщины попали на одну из пятикратных молитв, действует еще одно правило: не заходите в мужскую зону. Дело в том, что во время молитвы мужчины садятся спереди, женщины располагаются за ширмой, на втором этаже или просто сзади мужчин. Деление вполне оправданно: представители сильной половины человечества вряд ли смогут сосредоточиться на молитве, глядя на то, как впереди молятся женщины. Если вы попали на время молитвы, старайтесь обойти верующих сзади.

НАБЛЮДАЙТЕ СО СТОРОНЫ. В больших мечетях зачастую есть обзорные площадки, поинтересуйтесь на входе, как туда пройти. В главной мечети Татарстана, например, с нее открывается прекрасный вид на внутреннее убранство.

АРХИТЕКТУРА ХРАМА зависит от местных традиций. Мечеть может быть одно- или многоминаретной, центрально-купольной или колонной, с внутренним двориком и без него. Азан, или призыв к молитве, обычно совершается с минарета.
